SO GOOD, SO FAR

She lays her cards on the table,
He plays it close to the vest
So it might take a while
Sorting out substance from style
But the slow road is usually the best

He's got her running in circles
She's got him testing his faith
It's too soon to know
Just where this will go
So all they can do now is wait

Cause it's not a matter of destiny
Something written in the stars
And no such a thing as as what's "meant to be"
You make your own luck, wherever you are
So good, so far

Sometimes you can't help imagining
What you've longed for that's been left unsaid
But a story is meant for unfolding
Not for reading ahead

So you'll know what you know when you know it
That's the best you can do
You'll only make yourself crazy
Trying to forecast the truth

Cause it's not a matter of destiny
Nothing's written in the stars
And no such a thing as as what's "meant to be"
You make your own luck, wherever you are
So good, so far

No it's not a matter of destiny
Something written in the stars
And there's no secret magical recipe
You make your own luck, whoever you are
So good, so far
So good, so far

HOW LITTLE I KNOW

I gave her two keys in case she lost one
And I gave her my word, I've been all in since day one
No doubt of my intentions, No, my heart isn’t shy
From scribbled love notes to cursive in the sky

She is never on time, but I’m glad that I waited
And she is wise in her ways, and yet, understated
Like music, her love is measured by the space
Ah, but, silence, to me, feels like running in place

She says she loves me…

But only shows it half the time
And I'd never let love flicker
If the choice were only mine
I'd turn the flame up quicker

But there she is surrendering
To what she can't control
And now she's being cool
She's going with the flow
How little I know

When she can't make up her mind she disappears for days
And all that she leaves behind is a mysterious haze
So, I guess hibernation isn't just for the bears
And once in a blue moon should be enough to know she cares

Proof that she loves me...

But then she's in the wind
First sign of stormy weather
And I'm in the dark again
Tryin' to pull myself together

She knows who she is
And where she wants to go
Me, I'm more concerned
With what I need than what I owe
How little I know

I could feel her good-bye before over was spoken
Still I can’t talk myself out of being heartbroken
There was always the chance that I would end up getting burned
But one drop of pain is two drops lesson learned

She said she loved me…

So, if ignorance is bliss
This is heaven I suppose
Cause I don't understand,
And that's the way it goes

ALPENGLOW

We were safe in the forest
Where the world could just ignore us
And the was no stern Greek chorus
Giving voice to all our fears

But the whole dream faded
As reality invaded
And it got so complicated
That our moment disappeared

No matter how we missed the boat
That ship has sailed, that's all she wrote
Bridges burn and chapters close
And you can't go back beyond the pale

Blue moon, red pine
And the memories of auld lang syne
Fleeting as the alpenglow

GENEVA

So I throw my best intentions out the window, here we go again
I cannot stand by, and turn a blind eye

Not with all this flak ascending, how can I bite my tongue and count to ten?
When you won't see the flag of Geneva

Geneva, I call your name in vain
Can't you see how those fools have changed the game
They threw you out and locked the door
But with you gone there is no justice anymore

You think that it's in my heart to savor victory that an ambush brings?
Well, you don't know me, that's what it shows me

Cause even with the bullets flyin' I could never say the meanest thing
Nowhere near it, but still you hear it

Geneva, I call your name in vain
Can't you see how those fools have changed the game
They threw you out and locked the door
And with you gone there is no justice...

Until we get our treaty signed
I get no sleep or peace of mind

Geneva...
Can't you see how those fools have changed the game
I don't know what we're fighting for
But with you gone there is no justice...

Now all is fair in love and war
With you gone...

Geneva...

KING OF LIMBO

He wears a shroud of mystery
Sets the pace and leads you on
Never where you think he'll be
Cheshire smile 'n then he's gone

It's an ancient world that he comes from
But now he wears a suit and tie
Dancing to a distant drum
Still got jungle in his eyes

He's gonna cast a spell on you
Get you to do things you'd never do
All your better angels will disappear
Leavin' you to wonder how you wound up here…with
Truth adrift and time akimbo
Talkin' bout the King of limbo

Any way the wind is blowin'
He'll change direction on a lark
The hardest part is never knowin'
Always fumbling in the dark

Affable and slippery
A shaman on a mission
Tangible as mercury
Or just an apparition

And when he casts his spell on you
You're gonna do things you'd never do
You're just a puppet on his string,
Cause he's in charge of everything
Truth adrift and time akimbo
Talkin' bout the King of limbo

Just how low
Can one man go?
Who can can say
When no one knows?
Jerked around and left for dead
Still it isn't over yet

Don't let him cast his spell on you
Or make you do things you'd never do
Cause there's no justice, that's the deal
It doesn't matter how you feel
Truth adrift and time akimbo
Talkin' bout the King of limbo

Heart adrift and love akimbo
Talkin' bout the King...

The King of limbo

GUYS LIKE THAT

He brings her flowers every night
They go out dancing on the weekend
Always romantic and polite
And he buys her little presents for no reason

Yeah, he's as thoughtful as can be
Guys like that make it hard for guys like me

He goes to church, he doesn't cuss
He's not a drinker or a smoker
He's the kind of guy that she can trust
Not to lose her mother's necklace playing poker

Yeah he's the picture of integrity
Guys like that make it hard for guys like me

And he knows what she was wearing when they met
And her birthday's never something he forgets
He makes her breakfast in bed, and it's delicious
He'll even wash and dry the dishes

And when she's in a mood, he understands
He knows when to talk and when to listen
And when she's pourin' out her heart, he holds her hand
He can hear her problems without tryin' to fix 'em
He's a catch, and all her friends agree
Guys like that make it hard for guys like me

And he like to cuddle by the fireside
And at the ending of Titanic they both cried
He doesn't suffer from embarrassing disfunction
In the bedroom, and he can even take instruction

He never gives her reason to be jealous
No, after work he always goes straight home
He doesn't hang out at the strip club with the fellas
He just doesn't have that hound dog chromosome

And he's a three time world's best husband nominee
Guys like that make it hard for guys like me

And he runs his own successful company
And he volunteers at a children's charity
And he never gave her hepatitis B
Guys like that make it hard for guys like me
Guys like that make it hard for guys like me

JUST A FEELING

It's just a feeling
Like the sun upon my skin
Just a feeling
There it is again
A kind of whisper
Sweet and melancholy
But it's just a feeling

And for a moment
I'm dancing in the light
And for that moment
All the world seems right
And time means nothing
It's almost hypnotizing
But just a feeling

Just a feeling
Or could it be that love is on it's way
Something tells my heart today's the day
No more lonely
No more waiting
But it's just a feeling

It's like a memory
Of a place I've never been
A perfect memory
Comes over me and then
I'm part of something
Extraordinary
But it's just a feeling

It's just a feeling
Or could it be that love is on it's way
Something tells my heart today's the day
No more lonely
No more waiting

Something tells my heart today's the day
No more lonely
No more waiting...
It's just a feeling
Love is on the way
Today's the day
No more lonely
No more waiting
But it's just a feeling
Just a feeling
It's just a feeling

LOVE COMES BACK AROUND

You didn't break my heart in two when you threw it down
No, it was in a million pieces shattered on the ground
Sometimes it still hurts, so I think it still works
But I won't know till love comes back around

I'm gonna know my mind
When love comes back around
I'm gonna take my time
When love comes back around
I long for the day

When love comes back around
I'll be stronger then
When love comes back around
I'll take a chance again
I won't be afraid
When love comes back around

It's been a long and uphill climb getting over you
But now there's nothing in my way that's gonna make me blue
Those days are gone, and I think I've moved on
But I won't know till love comes back around

I'm gonna know my mind
When love comes back around
I'm gonna take my time
When love comes back around
I long for the day

When love comes back around
I'll be stronger then
When love comes back around
I'll take a chance again
I won't be afraid

Cause time works like glue
Someday I'm gonna be good as new
When love comes back around

I'm gonna know my mind
When love comes back around
I'm gonna take my time
When love comes back around
I won't be afraid
No, I long for the day

When love comes back around
When love comes back around

THE NIGHT OF THE DREIDEL

Far back as I recall this time of year filled me with dread
Home always represented breaking hearts and bumping heads
But then one night something happened that was straight out of a fable
And that became what we still call "The Night Of The Dreidel"

No one was crying, no one went away mad
Nobody burned the dinner, or made my mother sad
No one had a shouting match and called each other names
Or got into a fist fight brought on by the football game

Nobody got embarrassed, no one was over served
No secret agendas, no discouraging words
There was no retaliation, no one mounting their attack
And for a change nobody said what they could not take back

To this day I can't explain it, all our new found cheer
As if all our crazy history just disappeared
Seems like a miracle happened here

Everyone was smiling, not angry anymore
Quite a different spin on how it's ever been before
Like some kind of happy family where push never comes to shove
And as we sat there all together I swear you could feel the love

We laughed and sang a song with all the candles burning bright
Finally for us it was a festival of light
Now there's holy in our holiday and all the rifts are gone
Our own small revolution, just like the sevivon

To this day I can't explain it, how it all turned around that year
As if all our crazy history just disappeared
Seems like a miracle happened here
Seems like a miracle happened here

That night I dreamed that all the world was welcome at the table
And every nation did away with prejudice and labels
As if there'd never even been a tower of Babel
Yeah, miracles can happen in one night

There's no way I can't explain it, we're on a new frontier
All our crazy history has disappeared

Seems like a miracle happened here
Seems like a miracle happened here
Seems like a miracle happened here
Seems like a miracle
Seems like a miracle happened here

And that magic night became what we still call "The Night Of The Dreidel"

FOR A SONG

He was born in California
A little fish in a puddle by the bay
Delivered by the stork one cold and foggy morning
Just two days shy of New Year’s Day

His mother was a tiny bird, his father was a cat
So he's two parts contradiction and one part diplomat

As a child he was a little league sensation
He had the knack, he had the arm
But ever since the night of the Liverpool invasion
His family knew they couldn't keep him on the farm

Seventeen and restless he longed to be all he could be
But he didn't join the army, he set sail for Honalee

Maybe wanderlust is only yearning
To find that place where you belong
And the joy is in the journey
How can that be wrong?

He knew the odds, but our hero was relentless
And found his way into the belly of the beast
Where he got a job as a sorcerer's apprentice
Made friends with giants and studied at their feet

When suddenly his melody was heard around the world
And he took home the blue ribbon and he even got the girl

Yeah, I know it sounds romantic
To make your life following your dream
But it's a bumpy road through ecstasy and panic
And if you don't crash it's mostly somewhere in between

He's a poet, and a father, and a pauper, and a prince
And he's probably a genius, but he's the last one you'll convince

Maybe wanderlust is only yearning
To find that place where we belong
And if the joy is in the journey
How can that be wrong?
When you do it for a song

He's a modern day Ponce De Leon
And he did it for a song

TURNING BLUE

You be my witness
You were there before the fall
Cause I'm afraid I might have dreamed it all
And I can't wake up

Wake up to nothing
Nothing that was ever real
And nothing left here but the way I feel
And it won't let up

And all you wanna do is wind it back
To that moment in the sun
Cause you know that once you face the facts
Nothing's gonna save you from

Turning blue, Turning blue
Terrified, and all alone without a clue
Turning blue, Turning blue
Then the panic cause you don't know what to do
Feels like you'll never breathe again
But even all bad/ things come to an end
And it may not help to hear it, but it's true
It's just your turn, your turn in blue

So then it's over
At least until it's on again
You get your hopes up till it's gone and then
You slide back down

Back to the bottom
And wallow where it all went wrong
You drive in circles cryin' all night long
Till you're all cried out

Suddenly your heart's desire
Is spinning out of your control
One minute you were by the fire,
Now you're shivering in the cold

Turning blue, Turning blue
Terrified, and all alone without a clue
Turning blue, Turning blue
Then the panic cause you don't know what to do
Feels like you'll never breathe again
But even all sad things come to an end
And it may not help to hear it, but it's true
It's just your turn, your turn in blue

And there's no way around what you've been going through
When it's your turn, your turn in blue

ALMA MATER

Now one and all
Shall heed the call
You faithful sons and daughters

From far and near
Across the years
To gather once again

To raise a glass
And praise the past
Sing loud our alma mater

To reunite
And keep alight
That old eternal flame

But as for me
That Jamboree
Is not where I'll be going

The faint appeal
Of that ordeal
Is long since dead and cold

Just the thought
For me is fraught
And filled with fear and loathing

So I'll steer clear
Of yesteryear
And glory days of old

So here's to you
Green gold and blue
All hail your celebration

I hope you'll find
On this rewind
Your long lost entourage

But that refrain
Down memory lane
Is not my inclination

Those days are gone
Time marches on
Let lie the sleeping dogs

Those days are gone
Time marches on
Let lie the sleeping dogs

ALL MY LUCK

I'll never find a four leaf clover
I'll never catch a falling star
I won't break the bank at Monte Carlo
Or claim the golden ticket wrapped inside a chocolate bar

There's no bluebird on my shoulder
No double rainbow in my sky
And I never choose the long straw
Or the winning team at baseball, but it's really no surprise

Cause all my luck
Got all used up
The day that I found you

I won't find a pearl inside an oyster
Or a diamond in my crackerjack
A long lost uncle with a million
A Rembrandt at a yard sale, or an oil well right out back

But, I'm not hanging up a horseshoe
And there's no need to knock on wood
I don't even cross my fingers,
Cause I know none of these things would do me any good

Cause all my luck
Got all used up
The day that I found you

Some people spend their whole lives jealous
All they can see is the half empty glass
But there's really no one I can envy
From up here on the greener grass

So why even spin the wheel of fortune
That winning number won't be mine
Every kind of superstition... even birthday wishin'
Is just waste of time

Cause all my luck
Got all used up
The day that I found you

All my luck
Got all used up
The day that I found you
